Insulating Oil Dielectric Loss Tester When measuring the dielectric loss value of insulating oil, cleaning the oil cup is a very important preparatory step. Some unreliable measurement results are often due to incomplete cleaning of the oil cup. Therefore, strict cleaning methods must be followed to obtain repeatable and reliable measurement results.
When conducting the identification test of the dielectric loss factor of insulating oil, the oil cup should be thoroughly cleaned before each test. The cleaning steps are as follows:
a. Completely disassemble the oil cup, and clean all parts sequentially with chemically pure petroleum ether (distillation range 60-90°C) and benzene.
b. Rinse all parts with acetone, then clean with a neutral detergent.
c. Boil all parts in a 5% trisodium phosphate solution in distilled water for 5 minutes, then rinse several times with distilled water.
d. Boil all parts in distilled water for at least 1 hour.
e. Dry all parts in an oven controlled at 105-110°C for no less than 1 hour.
f. Assemble the oil cup after all parts have cooled to a temperature that is not hot to the touch.
Note: During general routine tests of the dielectric loss factor of insulating oil, the cleaning method of the oil cup can be simplified. That is, omit steps c and d of the above cleaning method, and instead rinse all parts several times with distilled water, then proceed directly to step e.
In addition, when conducting routine tests on a batch of oil samples continuously, if the dielectric loss factor of the previous oil sample is less than the specified value, it is not necessary to clean the oil cup again for the next sample. However, the second oil sample must be used to rinse the oil cup at least three times.
