Testing Methods and Precautions for Insulation Resistance Tester - Yangzhou Darui

Darui Electric recommends for you

The insulation resistance tester is a common power testing instrument in power tests, and the demand for it is also large. What precautions should be taken during the use of the insulation resistance tester?

1. Measurement methods of the insulation resistance tester:

(1) Wiring method: When measuring the insulation resistance of a line with an insulation resistance tester, connect the L terminal to the line conductor and the E terminal to the ground. When measuring the insulation resistance of a motor winding to ground, connect the L terminal to the motor winding lead and the E terminal to the motor housing. If measuring the insulation resistance between windings, connect the L and E terminals to the conductors of the two windings respectively. When measuring the insulation resistance of a cable to ground, connect the L terminal to the cable core, the E terminal to the cable outer sheath, and the G terminal to the cable insulation layer.

(2) Testing method: During measurement, place the insulation resistance tester steadily. When shaking the generator handle, the speed should increase from slow to fast. When the speed reaches 120 r/min, after the pointer becomes basically stable for 1 minute, take the reading; if the pointer points to zero while shaking the handle, do not shake it anymore to avoid burning out the instrument coil.

(3) After measurement, wait until the instrument stops rotating and the tested object is fully discharged before touching the equipment and removing the instrument wiring to avoid electric shock.

2. Precautions for operating the insulation resistance tester:

(1) The voltage level selected for the insulation resistance tester should be compatible with the withstand voltage level of the tested object to avoid breakdown of the insulation of the tested equipment.

(2) It is strictly forbidden to conduct insulation resistance tests on live lines, during thunderstorms, or on energized equipment.

(3) When testing insulation resistance near energized equipment, maintain a safe distance between personnel and the energized equipment to prevent the test leads from touching live parts.

Note: Before measurement, be sure to clarify the rated voltage of the tested object. Choose an appropriate insulation resistance tester; either too high or too low can cause problems.
